How to Identify Your Caroma or Fowler Toilet

How to Identify Your Caroma or Fowler Toilet

We stock genuine Caroma and Fowler spare parts and ship Australia-wide — order for fast despatch from our Mascot warehouse.

Identifying which toilet you have from Caroma or Fowler is the most important 1st step before ordering spare parts or replacing the toilet. Most Caroma and Fowler toilets now use the same retrofit spare parts which does make it easier but they don’t all have the same set up. Below we will take you through how we identify the correct Caroma or Fowler Toilet, so that you can make the right decision. Sydney Tap and Bathroomware has an extensive spare parts inventory and with 40 years of experience has developed a reputation for identifying those hard to find products and stocking discontinued product lines. Here is our DIY guide to help you identify your Caroma and Fowler parts.

  1. Confirm that you have a Caroma or Fowler Toilet

Identifying Your Caroma or Fowler Toilet – The First and Most Important Step

Before ordering spare parts or considering a replacement, it’s essential to correctly identify which Caroma or Fowler toilet model you have. While many modern Caroma and Fowler toilets now share common retrofit spare parts—making compatibility easier—not all models are set up the same way.

Below, we’ll guide you through the key steps to identify your toilet model correctly, so you can confidently choose the right parts or replacement unit.

Another way to identify your Caroma or Fowler toilet is by comparing its style to the models listed on the Caroma website. However, this method can be tricky due to subtle design differences across ranges.

If you’re unsure, the easiest solution is to send clear photos of your toilet (including the cistern, bowl, and any model markings) to sales@sydneybathroomware.com.au—our team will assist you in identifying those hard to find products quickly

🔧 Important Tip:
You only need to match your toilet model if you’re planning to replace the entire unit. If you’re just after spare parts, most Caroma and Fowler models now use universal components.

For example, if you’re replacing the outlet valve on a back-to-wall, external cistern, the correct part is the Caroma M5 Quietflow Outlet Valve, which is compatible across most Caroma and Fowler models.

Caroma Quietflow M5 Cistern Outlet Valve | Genuine Part 750085

Original price was: $129.00.Current price is: $77.18.

The Universal Replacement: The Quietflow M5 is Caroma’s most advanced mechanical outlet valve. It is a direct “drop-in” replacement for many older Caroma systems.

  • Backward Compatible: Successfully replaces the discontinued M3 and M4 outlet valves.

  • The Identification: Look for the signature grey and white tower with the adjustable float. This is a dual-flush mechanical valve.

  • The Diagnostic: If your Caroma toilet is leaking into the bowl, or the flush feels “sticky” and won’t reset, the M5 is the definitive fix.

Genuine Caroma Factory Spare — 750085 The M5 Quietflow earned its name by being one of the most silent-sealing valves on the market. It features a heavy-duty silicone seal and an adjustable flushing volume to ensure it works perfectly with both older 6/3L and modern 4.5/3L cisterns.

Why the M5 is the Plumber’s Choice:

  • Simple Height Adjustment: The telescopic design allows it to fit a wide variety of Caroma cistern heights.

  • Dual Flush Precision: Separate adjustments for full and half flush volumes to save water.

  • Reliability: Built to withstand Australian water conditions, including areas with high mineral content that usually perish cheaper valves.

Complete Your Repair: If your cistern is also taking a long time to fill or making a whistling sound, we recommend pairing this with the Caroma Quietflow Inlet Valve for a complete internal overhaul. If your toilet is bottom inlet, meaning the inlet hose is exposed outside of the toilet, you should buy the Geberit Inlet Valve

  • Q: Will this replace my old blue or green Caroma valve?

    • A: Yes. The M5 is designed to be the universal successor to most older Caroma mechanical outlet valves.

  • Q: Do I need to remove the cistern to install this?

    • A: In most modern Caroma cisterns, the “tower” clips into a base. If your base is in good condition, you can often clip the new M5 tower straight in. If the base is leaking, you will need to remove the cistern to replace the entire unit.

  • Q: Is the seal replaceable?

    • A: Yes, but if the plastic mechanism is over 5-7 years old, we recommend replacing the whole 750085 unit to ensure the spring tension and float are also refreshed.

Choosing the Correct Inlet Valve

When replacing your inlet valve, there are two options available, depending on how water enters your cistern:

  1. Back (Rear) Entry Inlet Valve
This type of valve has the water supply hose concealed inside the tank, entering from the rear left-hand side of the cistern. It provides a cleaner look and is commonly used in wall-faced or modern designs. (See image below for reference.)
  2. Bottom Entry Inlet Valve
This valve connects via a visible hose from beneath the cistern, typically on the bottom right-hand side. It’s more common in older or exposed cistern designs.

Make sure to check your current setup before ordering a replacement to ensure compatibility.
